The ever popular Meeru Resort is one preferred by most holidaymakers. It is a perfect retreat from the busiest of lifestyles and is situated in the heart of the picturesque lagoon of Maldives islands. Soft white sand covers the island and walks along the beaches or in the shade of the gently swaying palm trees are extremely popular with all visitors to our resort. We have uniquely covered all of the floors in the public areas for the resort with this soft sand and feel by doing so we have created a casual and relaxed atmosphere where you can kick off your shoes and chill out!!
Our Jacuzzi Water Villas are located in the lagoon, which is just a short walk along your own private jetty. Within the 83 sqm of your luxury accommodation which is decorated with a tropical theme and wood or tiled floors throughout, there is a large bedroom which has either a king size or two twin beds. The lounge area includes Colour Cable TV and DVD Player. Also, each Villa has a tea / coffee / espresso machine. Plus a fabulous bathroom with double sinks, shower, bath accessories and a Jacuzzi large enough for two, and a private sundeck with stairs to the turquoise sea. In addition to the overhead ceiling fan all villas have air-conditioning. A well stocked mini-bar with refrigerator is what we class as an accommodation essential. All villas also have IDD Telephone, Personal Safe, hot and cold water in the bathroom, hair dryer and our nightly turndown service. Electricity is 220Vac, 50Hz. Complimentary use of the chaise lounges at the pool side and beach are available and beach towels are also given to our guests.
Restaurants
At opposite ends of the island you will find our two sister restaurants. The Farivalhu is for any guests staying at the southern end of the island, and the Maalan for those at the north. Both offering our visitors first class food served as an all you can eat buffet style for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is an outdoor dining experience and our sand covered floor theme continues here a well. If you prefer the a la carte style of dining there are restaurants here for you, and the Hungaanu Coffee Shop within the resort offers an all day dining menu. Within the lagoon you will see The Hagern yacht restaurant anchored where we serve a menu of grilled specialities.
We are proud to announce our new over-the-water Asian Wok Restaurant which specialises in Asian cuisine and Teppanyaki.
But if none of these venues tickle your taste buds then maybe a choice of Room Service, Private dining in you room, or a special dinner served on the beach would be more to your liking.
Bars
There are several bars to choose within the resort, and depending on your location you could be on the beach by the Dhoni Bar, or by the swimming pool at the Kakuni Bar. Here we have sports bar facilities such as table tennis, billiards, table football and a colour satellite TV which covers all international sporting events.
If neither of these are for you then enjoy Club 1919 aboard the Hagern yacht in the lagoon. Our guests of 18 years or above are welcome in the Uthuru Bar which is located next to the Maalan Restaurant at the southern end of the restaurant. Finally closest to the Jacuzzi Water Villas is the Pavillion Bar, so make your choice and enjoy!
Duniye Spa
Our unique spa offers a totally tropical experience for both men and women, which focuses on four ideals – wholeness, simplicity, purity and most importantly quality. The therapist’s use products which are chemical free, pure organic compounds and added to this the techniques of healing energy with Asian massage to create a natural holistic approach which is tailor made for the clients individual needs.
Entertainment
The night time entertainment programme includes our own cultural dance show “Bodu Beru” which is not to be missed. If you want to dance there is a choice of the DJ Disco or the resorts live band. Alternatively, you can choose from Movies, Divers Videos, Table Tennis Tournaments or even Crab Racing!! Tours of the gardens and nature trail within the resort are available plus our own Maldives Cultural Mini Museum.
The resort also offers Internet Cafés for you to email or web browse, as well as wireless connections in all guest rooms and in selected public areas.
We also have our own lending library by the Kakuni Bar, which gives you the opportunity to donate the books you may finish while on holiday here, leaving you more room in your suitcase for the items you may buy at our gift shop.
The Gift Shop has a vast and diverse array of items to purchase from Sports and Swim Wear to Books and music CDs. Sifani Jewelers are also within the gift shop and offer a wonderful selection of pieces at very reasonable prices. Gifts for home are also available, but when not thinking about your holiday ending you may want to purchase various sundries, magazines or even Cigarettes.
Sports and Recreation
There is so much to choose from during your stay at the Meeru Island Resort whether it be on the 1.5 kilometre white sandy beach, or in the water the choices are endless. Our superb lagoon is idea for snorkelling, and we also have a swimming pool which overlooks our perfect beaches. There is also a children’s wading pool for our younger guests. Energetic guests may enjoy either of our two lighted Tennis Courts or Golf Driving Range. Other activities we like our guests to enjoy are Badminton, Beach Volley Ball, Billiards, Darts, Petanque and Football. Bicycles are available for the guests to enjoy discovering our beautiful resort. If this is not enough there is also our Fitness Studio with modern exercise equipment. As we move from activities on land to the sea there are various fishing trips available which take place either in the morning or at sunset. Deep sea fishing is also available.
At the resort we also have our own Windsurfing and Sailing Centre which offers crafts for rental and instruction including Kayaks and Glass Bottom Boats.
We are also pleased to offer Guided Excursions and just a handful of these include Snorkeling, Love Boat Day sails, Island Hopping, Sunset Cruises and even submarine sightseeing.
The Meeru Island Resort has a weekly activity programme which includes both wet and dry activities. From Water Polo to various Sports Tournaments.
For those less energetic Board Games are available from the Front Desk, and we can offer Chess, Checkers, Scrabble and many more.
But when in undoubtedly one of the most amazing locations in the world Diving Holidays is a must.
At our resort we are pleased to offer an OceanPro SCUBA centre which has so much for you to try and discover during you stay with us. Available to you is Guided Diving and Snorkelling boat trips, or for the novice diver a complete PADI Instructional Programme is available. The centre also sells equipment and accessories, plus a rental and repair service is offered.
The Meeru Island Resort will make your diving experience on this holiday truly unforgettable. Our spacious dive centre offers an extensive range of courses for the beginner to the most experienced, with more than 50 dive sites, and fantastic staff from the International Ocean-Pro Diving Team.
The dive centre offers all the facilities a driver will require at an exceptionally high standard. We ensure no diver carries their equipment to the boat and 6 days non limit diving without visiting a dive site twice is normal.
Due to the breathtakingly beautiful lagoon which surround Meeru you will not find a typical house reef here, so all dives are boat dives. However this spectacular lagoon is home to a wide variety of marine life that includes many varieties of colourful fish swimming in the shallow waters over the interesting coral formations. This location is perfect for snorkelers and diver training. Our boat dives cover the majority of the North Male Atoll where you can find 50 different dive sites which we have given a rating of easy to difficult. Some of these scuba diving 50 sites include the reef formations of Tilas, Giris and Farus. Also there is outside reefs, Channels and Wrecks.
The outside reefs around Meeru are famous for its population of Sea Turtles and divers in this area have experienced many encounters with these amazing creatures, so coming face to face is a virtual guarantee. Other marine life sightings throughout the year have included Sharks and Manta Rays. In the months of May to December the fairy Tale and Lankan Manta Point are favourite locations for sightings of the graceful Manta. During the rest of the year the sites of Bodu, Hithi and Thila are successful for seeing the Manta. Each of our trips are offered as a full day or two tank dive excursion, so the choice is yours, but one thing is for sure in this stunning location to miss the diving experience of a lifetime would be criminal.
Information about seaplane transfer:
Seaplanes fly daily between the hours of 6am and 6pm only – i.e. during daylight hours. It is an airline policy that passengers are required to check-in no later than 2 hours prior to departure time. Therefore a Meeru guest can connect by seaplane only to an international flights departing from Male after 9.00am. Also, the last seaplane departure from Meeru is approximately 4.00pm.
Our guests arriving on an international flight from which it is not possible to connect with the last seaplane departure from the TMA Terminal will be transferred by speedboat, or may choose to spend an overnight stay at the Hulhule Airport Hotel, or a hotel in Male. Alternatively the guest will have to stay in the airport until the following day. Therefore, it is vital the guest knows their check in time at the TMA Terminal and if it is later that approximately 4.00pm they should make alternative arrangements to avoid this situation.
